The Colors of Christmas (BMG 01934 11368) - 1998
A very interesting Pop anomaly in the Windham Hill catalog. Many artists on Colors of Christmas had long-standing relationships with BMG or its child labels, so perhaps it made sense when Larry Hamby and Andrea Franklin recruited Robbie Buchanan to create something that seemed to be copying the financial success of Jim Brickman's The Gift. On Windham Hill, The Gift went Gold in 1997 a mere 2 months after release. Roberta Flack and Peabo Bryson cover his title track on track 11 of this album.
Overall the artistry on the record is really excellent and in my opinion is just as good as any other Pop-oriented Holiday Collection.
The Colors of Christmas is one of two Windham Hill Holiday records that feature no "Classic" Windham Hill Artists.
Below is Brickman's The Gift by Bryson and Flack. The track later appeared on Unconditional Love, Bryson's Private Music recording in 1999.
