A Windham Hill Jazz Christmas (BMG 01934 13702) - 1998

A Jazz Christmas is the first of two "Windham Hill Jazz" Christmas albums released during the "BMG Years." BMG saw an asset in the Jazz imprint and turned out a number of albums and artists during the mid-90s.

I read an article in billboard that said that Windham Hill Jazz was a target for BMG in the early days, I guess the wave of "Smooth Jazz" that hit a number of record labels in the 90s was also caught by Windham Hill. A number of the jazz artists who released albums on the Windham imprint at this time are also featured here on this record.

There's one "Classic" Windham Hill featured here: W.G. Snuffy Walden. The great Paul Horn also makes his only Windham Hill compilation appearance.

Though I have some trouble reconciling the style of this album (and its companion album: A Jazz Noel) with the rest of the holiday catalog, there are some gems on this record, and a lot of talent featured. Here's Mr. Horn's O Little Town of Bethlehem.
