A Windham Hill Christmas (BMG 01934 11651) - 2002
The Silver Anniversary of the record label brought in some new directives, it seems. This is the first album to get the more traditional (and recognizable/marketable) Windham Hill Christmas moniker. Also interesting, of note, this is the first Atkinson-produced holiday album not to feature any original compositions (all are artistic renditions of classical Christmas music). Still, the upbeat and bright feel of the tracks may remind the listener of snow and sleigh rides. It is a very well-produced album, if somewhat limited in its artistry, and I can't help but feel the musicians are somewhat limited in what they could have contributed.
Steve Erquiaga's Angels We Have Heard On High. It's one of his best tracks in the entire catalog and my favorite orchestration and performance of this piece.
